Originally created for the Royal Italian Navy in 1938, the Radiomir Black Seal is lauded for its dynamic cushion-shaped case, removable wire loop strap attachment and usability under extreme conditions.
Its latest incarnation sees the well-loved 45mm case donning a dangerously matte black outfit of zirconium oxide ceramic moulded through a newly developed process.
Instead of undergoing conventional casting, the ceramic powder was subjected to isostatic pressure that bestows the resultant material with an enhanced resistance to a wide range of temperatures, scratches and corrosion, and five times more durability than 316L surgical grade stainless steel.
Further boosting the watch's robustness are its 2.2mm thick anti-reflective sapphire crystal, screw down winding crown and back as well as an Incabloc anti-shock device.
Reinstating its naval affiliation, the matte black dial features an understated tone-on-tone torpedo reproduction and luminous hands, hour indexes and Arabic numerals for optimal legibility at night or under water.
Powered by the hand wound mechanical Panerai OPXI hand wound mechanical with 56 hours of power reserve, the timepiece is COSC chronometer certified, water resistant up to 100m and limited to 1,000 units.
