Named after the legendary twin who founded ancient Rome, the most striking feature of the revived Romulus watch is the satin finished Roman numerals hand-engraved on its brilliant-polished wave-profile bezel.

Handsome and dignified, it brings to mind the Bvlgari and Tiffany archetypes which flaunt bezels engraved with their names.

But the Romulus was created much earlier in 1966. And its inspiration dates even further back to the eve of the 1958 Basel Fair when a delay in the delivery of hour markers resulted in Corum adorning its new models with bare gold dials.

Marking the return of the Romulus after a long hiatus at this year's Basel Fair, Corum has issued it in two different models.

The stainless steel model comes in a choice of black or grey guilloche dial with vertical stripes while 18K rose or white gold model is adorned with a black or grey guilloche dial with sun-ray pattern.

Equipped with different self-winding movements, the former sports a concentric disc-type 42-hour power reserve indicator at 7 o'clock, while the latter features a seconds sub-dial at '6' and a crystal case back that shows off its twin-barrel Piguet calibre with 72 hours of power reserve.
