Born of noble sporting heritage, the Carrera was launched in 1964 under the Heuer brand, inspired by the Le Carrera Panamericana Rally Mexico of 1950s.
It can be said that early Carreras played an important role in defining the look and performance of modern chronographs with features like classically designed column wheel movements (among them the Valjoux 72 and Valjoux 92) and the world's first tachymeter bezel.
In continuous production right up to the early 1980s, before being halted during a period after corporate transition, the Carrera design has evolved from elegant round cases with slim lugs in the 1960s to fancy cushion cases in the 1970s and 1980s.
Its rebirth in the 1990s touts a more classic look similiar to its 1960s collections, and proved to be a massive success, thanks in large part to advertising campaigns fronted by Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt.
In fact, the association between the two is so strong that customers have known to ask for the 'Brad Pitt watch'.
