Differentiated by the orange coloured lightning-shaped seconds hand and green coloured sapphire crystal, the 50th anniversary edition of the Oyster Milgauss is playful and youthful, characteristics seldom associated with the staid and serious Rolex.
Conceived in the 1950s for the aerospace, nuclear, and medical research industries where scientists, engineers, and technicians work in professional environments subject to strong magnetic fields.
This revival model is resistant to a magnetic flux density of 1,000 gauss or 80,000 A/m (Amperes per metre), placing it on par with the anti-magnetic property of IWC's contemporary Ingenieur (born in the same era in 1954, and reborn in 2005).
The New Milgauss owes its resistance to magnetism to various exclusive Rolex innovations including its in-house Parachrom hairspring and an escapement wheel made from a new paramagnetic material.
Available in stainless steel with an Oyster bracelet. The original has become a hit for collectors and the new version stays close to its 1950s styling with its orange lightning bolt second hand. It will retail at about £3,000.
